The European Universities Padel Championship will be held in the dynamic city of Coimbra, Portugal. Renowned for its academic legacy and modern sports infrastructure, Coimbra is set to host Europe’s top university athletes for an exciting and competitive event.

Located in central Portugal along the MondegoRiver, Coimbra is a historic city that seamlessly combines medieval charm with a vibrant student atmosphere. It is home to the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest universities in Europe, founded in 1290. Once the capital of Portugal, Coimbra remains a key cultural and educational hub. The municipality has a population of around 140,000, with approximately 100,000 residing in the city proper, including a large and active student community.

When visiting Portugal for the European University Tennis and Padel Championship, here’s what you need to know:

  • Language: The official language is Portuguese. English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas.
  • Time Zone: Portugal follows Western European Time (WET, UTC +0) during the winter months and Western European Summer Time (WEST, UTC +1) in the summer.
  • Currency: Portugal uses the Euro (€).
  • Payments: Credit and debit cards are widely accepted in most places. ATMs are easily accessible, and contactless payments are common. It’s also advisable to carry some cash for smaller establishments.
  • Emergency Number: The emergency services number in Portugal is 112 for fire, police, and medical emergencies.

July and August in Coimbra, Portugal, typically features hot, dry summer weather. Average temperatures during this month range from 20°C (68°F) in the early mornings and evenings to 35°C (95°F) during the day, with occasional peaks reaching higher temperatures.
